A hard disk, also known as a hard drive, is a type of storage device used in computers to store and retrieve digital data. It consists of one or more spinning disks coated with magnetic material that can store data in the form of binary code (0s and 1s). The disks are read and written to by a mechanical arm with a read/write head that moves across the surface of the disk. Hard disks are used to store the operating system, applications, documents, media files, and other data on a computer. The capacity of a hard disk is measured in gigabytes (GB) or terabytes (TB), with larger capacities allowing for more data to be stored. Hard disks are slower than solid-state drives (SSDs) but are generally less expensive and have higher storage capacities.
